Mature Skin – Problems & Solutions

Làn Da Tuổi Trưởng Thành – Vấn Đề Gặp Phải & Cách Khắc Phục
Age significantly impacts the skin's appearance; the older you get, the more signs of aging your skin will show. This is a natural process that we cannot prevent. However, we can absolutely control and slow down the appearance of these signs of aging on the skin.

Problems with aging skin

Starting from the age of 25, skin enters the aging phase, and this process can even occur earlier due to external factors. Aging skin will gradually encounter problems such as:
  • Skin becomes drier and rougher due to dehydration, lack of moisture, an imbalance in the hydrolipidic film, and a gradual loss of the skin's protective barrier.
  • Skin becomes more transparent and delicate due to damaged and depleted epidermis.
  • Skin experiences a decline in collagen and elastin, leading to the appearance of more wrinkles, sagging, and loss of elastic tissues.
  • Skin bruises easily due to thin and fragile blood vessels.
  • Skin becomes dull, with many dark spots and deep freckles appearing due to increased melanin activity.
  • Skin is more susceptible to damage and contact dermatitis.
  • The subcutaneous structures also undergo significant changes:
    • The subcutaneous fat layer in the cheeks, temples, chin, and eye area decreases in volume, causing the face to sag, eyes to sink deep, and facial bone structure to become more prominent.
    • Reduced nasal cartilage causes drooping and loss of nasal structure.
    • After age 60, bone loss occurs around the mouth and chin, leading to wrinkled skin around the mouth.

Factors affecting the skin aging process

After age 25, collagen and elastin (proteins synthesized by the body that keep skin smooth and elastic) begin to slow production, leading to increased aging. The older you get, the more signs of skin aging will appear.
In addition to internal factors, many external causes seriously affect the skin aging process.
  • Sunlight: Is one of the leading causes of skin aging. The UV rays from sunlight damage elastin fibers in the skin and interfere with the formation of new elastin. The breakdown of elastin fibers causes the skin to sag and lose elasticity. The skin also becomes more vulnerable and harder to recover. The harmful effects of sunlight may not be immediately obvious, but in the long run, your skin will age faster than your actual age.
  • Environmental pollution and cigarette smoke: significantly reduce blood flow to the skin, making it more prone to wrinkles. Dust and bacteria from the environment are also major causes of dull, discolored skin, and the rapid formation of dark spots and freckles.

  • Sleeping position affects the appearance of wrinkles on the skin: If you sleep on your side, wrinkles on the side of your forehead and between your cheeks are more likely to appear. Sleeping on your back helps reduce the risk of wrinkle formation. Additionally, insufficient sleep or staying up too late can accelerate skin aging because the skin doesn't have enough time to regenerate new cells.
  • Improper use of cosmetics and ineffective skin cleansing will clog pores, reducing the skin's ability to recover and regenerate. Especially, using poor quality or unverified cosmetic products will accelerate skin degradation.
In addition, some other factors affecting the skin aging process include: a diet high in sugar, caffeine, and spicy foods; a polluted living environment; stress and fatigue; and perimenopause/menopause in women, etc.

Methods to prevent skin aging

We can completely curb and slow down the aging process with a scientific, reasonable skincare routine and healthy habits.

1. Proper skin cleansing

Eliminating harmful agents on the skin is the first step to effectively combat skin aging. Proper skin cleansing helps deep clean and decongest the skin while respecting its texture, without damaging the hydrolipidic layer, by using gentle products with balanced pH. Additionally, replace traditional physical exfoliants with chemical exfoliants, using BHA or AHA to deep clean and stimulate better skin cell regeneration.

2. Add active ingredients to your skincare routine

In addition to using chemical exfoliants with acids, boldly using stronger and more potent active ingredients is also a way to both prevent and treat skin aging issues. Some of the most renowned ingredients for antioxidant, anti-aging, and treating signs of aging that you should definitely try after turning 25 include: vitamin C, peptides, Retinols, etc. However, it's crucial to choose ingredients suitable for your skin and thoroughly research how to use them and combine them to avoid ingredients "clashing" and causing skin irritation.

3. Moisturize your skin

Providing water and nutrients to the skin is a method that not only prevents dry, rough skin but also helps prevent wrinkle formation and maintains firm, elastic skin. Pay attention to choosing a moisturizer suitable for your skin type: oily, dry, combination, etc., and skin condition: acne-prone, dull, damaged, etc. Avoid products with harmful active ingredients such as fragrances, mineral oils, harsh bleaching agents, etc. Common skin moisturizing ingredients include: Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B3, Vitamin E, Urea, etc.
Suggested product: Oh!Oh! HA Serum

4. Maximize sun protection

Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that is suitable and safe for your skin. Use sunscreen daily, whether indoors or outdoors, and reapply it regularly throughout the day. In addition, wear long-sleeved clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses when necessary.

5. Ensure adequate water and nutrient intake for the body

Dehydration increases the risk of skin damage, making skin dry and lifeless. A nutrient-deficient diet will lack the necessary ingredients for skin regeneration. Therefore, adequate water and nutrient intake are extremely important. Foods rich in collagen beneficial for skin include tomatoes, soy milk, salmon, tuna, etc. Eat plenty of foods containing vitamins that help regenerate and protect skin, such as vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, and vitamin E.

6. Maintain a reasonable lifestyle

Avoid staying up too late and get enough sleep. Do not smoke and exercise regularly.
Although age significantly impacts the skin and aging is a natural law, we can absolutely consciously protect, preserve, and care for our skin and body in the most scientific way, helping to maintain healthy skin and preserve youthfulness for a long time.
